The technology also has many attempts, applications and exploration in the fields of historical relic protection, construction, planning, civil engineering, factory improvement, indoor design, building monitoring, traffic accident treatment, legal evidence collection, disaster assessment, ship design, digital cities, military analysis and the like.

Three-dimensional laser scanners are scientific instruments that detect and analyze the shape (geometry) and appearance data (such as color, surface albedo, etc.) of an object or environment in the real world. The collected data is often used to perform three-dimensional reconstruction calculations to create a digital model of the actual object in the virtual world. The three-dimensional laser scanner comprises a hardware part for data acquisition and a software part for data processing. According to the difference of carriers, the three-dimensional laser scanner can be divided into a handheld type, an airborne type, a vehicle-mounted type and a ground type.

The handheld three-dimensional laser scanner generally comprises a scanner body, a handle, a laser lens and two camera lenses, wherein the handle, the laser lens and the camera lenses are all arranged on the scanner body, and the two camera lenses are respectively arranged on two sides of the laser lens.
